This interactive workshop provides every conference delegate with two practical template documents to assist interpreters in their tribunals.
In self-selected table groups based on subject-matter, delegates will work together to produce two simple but effective documents.
Look for a table with a sign indicating the subject-matter relevant to your work: guardianship, disciplinary, tenancies, mental health, migration, NDIS, planning and building, personal injury, medical panels and workers compensation, industrial relations. Or make a table of your own that represents the work your tribunal does.
- Document 1: A plain English description of a common application in your tribunal, accompanied by a glossary of several key words that have a special meaning in relation to that application.
E.g. an application for vacant possession of residential premises. Special terms: bond / vacant possession / rent arrears.
- Document 2. A script for Tribunal members to use when an interpreter enters the hearing room, to enable the interpreter and the parties to understand the interpreter’s role.
Adapt the example on the table, or write your own.
Delegates will be assisted by a table scribe who will create the templates that will be distributed to all tribunals. Example documents will be provided to assist. Both exercises will be completed – 10 minutes each!
This exercise can be completed by online delegates who will be sent a link to the templates, and example documents, during the session.
