Abstract

Tribunals serve a broad range of users covering both professionals and self-represented, who belong to an increasingly diverse community culturally, physically, and psychologically. Unique to Tribunals is the need to balance diverse community needs with safeguarding public trust in independent and impartial decision-making and the rule of law.  By adopting Universal Design principles Tribunals can effectively support the greatest numbers of users with its constrained service improvement and operating budgets.  Through presentations and facilitated discussion, this session will explore why designing for user centricity matters, learn about the successes and challenges of real-world examples of user centric-service reforms, and hear about how those lessons are being applied in future reforms.

ABOUT COAT

The COAT is intended to facilitate liaison and discussion between the heads of tribunals. It will support the development of best practice models and model procedural rules, standards of behaviour and conduct for members and increased capacity for training and support for members.
