Teresa Anderson graduated from Auckland University with a Bachelor of Laws in 1979. She practised in the Auckland firm holding the Crown Solicitor’s warrant undertaking a broad range of criminal and civil legal work, before moving to South Australia and joining the Crown Prosecutor’s office, continuing what was to become a lengthy career in criminal law. After spending time as a prosecutor in Western Australia and New Zealand, she returned to the South Australian Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, where she practised for four years before being appointed as a Magistrate in 2005.
During her distinguished career as a Magistrate in city and regional areas, Ms Anderson was involved for a decade in the provision of continuing education to the magistracy through its orientation program, including presenting on the topic she addresses on to COAT, recusal.
Ms Anderson retired as a Magistrate in 2022, but has since taken appointments as an auxiliary magistrate in both Tasmania and South Australia. She is currently appointed as a Supplementary Deputy President of the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, where she presides with a panel over complex disciplinary hearings concerning health practitioners. She brings a wealth of knowledge about managing a fast-paced hearing room to ensure practical outcomes.
