Martha has an LLM from Auckland University specialising in international human rights law. She was a member of the New Zealand Refugee Status Appeals Authority, the Deportation Review Tribunal, the Weathertight Homes Tribunal, and is also a former Co-Chairperson of the New Zealand Human Rights Tribunal. She has been a member of the Immigration and Protection Tribunal since 2016 and leads the well-being committee there. She has also worked as a mental health lawyer. She is the Rapporteur of the IAMRJ Judicial Well-being and Resilience working party and was one of the lead authors of the IAMRJ Judicial Well-being and Resilience Guidelines.
