Justice Judy Hughes
SACAT President & Conference Convenor
Judy Hughes was born and raised in Adelaide and graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1991 with an Honours degree in Law and a Bachelor of Arts specialising in philosophy and politics.
Much of her career was undertaken practising in administrative and Government law at the Crown Solicitor’s Office and she also undertook various legal policy roles in Environment and Heritage and Consumer Affairs between 1998 and 2006.
After leading the Public Law Section in the Crown Solicitor’s office, she was appointed Crown Solicitor in 2017 overseeing an office of 280 staff. Later that year, she was appointed to the Supreme Court and as the second President of SACAT. She has led SACAT for nearly nine of its 10.5-year history, including overseeing the constant assumption of new jurisdiction. She hears proceedings over a wide range of subject matter and is committed to the ongoing professional development of judges and tribunal members throughout their careers.
