Deputy Principal District Judge, Community Courts & Tribunals Cluster, State Courts of Singapore 

Jasbendar Kaur was appointed as a District Judge at the State Courts of Singapore in 2005. She previously served as a Deputy Public Prosecutor and State Counsel with the Attorney-General’s Chambers of Singapore, and as Director of the Legal Department in the Ministry of Manpower. From 2005 to 2019, she presided over criminal cases and served in the Registrar’s Office. Since 2019, she has been part of the Community Courts & Tribunals Cluster (CCTC), which oversees community, relationship and small value disputes.   

In her capacity as the Deputy Principal District Judge, she assists in managing the CCTC, which comprises the Community Disputes Resolution Tribunals (CDRT), Employment Claims Tribunals (ECT), Protection from Harassment Court (PHC), Small Claims Tribunals (SCT), and the Magistrate’s Complaints Registry. Established in 2014, the CCTC forms a core component of the State Courts’ community justice strategy which aims to provide simpler, more affordable, and expedited processes for community and relational disputes. Within this framework, judge-led proceedings and mediation play a critical role in enhancing access to justice whilst facilitating the early resolution of disputes and timely issuance of orders.
