Hon. Justice Kerri Mellifont
President, Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal
Justice Mellifont is a graduate of the Queensland University of Technology – Bachelor of Laws (Honours) (1994), Master of Laws (1996) and Doctor of Juridical Science (2007). Her Honour was admitted as a barrister of the Supreme Court in 1994. Her Honour was appointed silk in 2010.
Justice Mellifont was appointed Senior Legal Officer at the Forde Inquiry into Child Abuse (1998-1999), Senior Counsel Assisting Queensland Floods Commission (2011) and Senior Counsel Assisting to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (2019-2021).
Her Honour served as a director of Barristers Chambers Pty Ltd (2005-2021) and a member of the Psychologist’s Board of Queensland (2005-2010). Her Honour was a tutor and lecturer at QUT (1996-2001). Her Honour was on the QUT Law Founders’ Scholarship Committee (2013-2021).
Her Honour is the author of Fruit of the Poisonous Tree, a study of the law relating to evidence derived from excluding illegally and improperly obtained evidence.
Justice Mellifont was appointed as a justice of the Supreme Court of Queensland on 4 October 2021 and was appointed President of the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal on 22 November 2021.
