Graeme Neate AM FAAL
President of the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal
Graeme Neate AM FAAL is the President of the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal. He commenced in that role in January 2017. After graduating from the ANU in Arts and Law, he was the associate to two judges, then worked in the Commonwealth Department of Aboriginal Affairs and with the Australian Constitutional Commission before joining a major commercial law firm. In 1992 he was appointed the first chairperson of the Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Land Tribunals and as a member of the Land Court of Queensland. He was appointed to the National Native Title Tribunal in 1995 and was its President from 1999 until 2013. In 2014 he was appointed as a Commissioner with the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission for three years. He has published articles and texts on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land and cultural heritage matters, is an honorary professor at the ANU College of Law and is a member of the executive of the Council of Australasian Tribunals.
