Sarah Eyre is Chairperson of the Human Rights Review Tribunal ǀ Taraipiunara Mana Tangata in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Sarah was appointed Chairperson in 2022 and prior to that was a Deputy Chairperson of the Tribunal. Sarah has been a lawyer for almost 25 years, with 15 years’ experience across a range of Tribunal jurisdictions. Her Tribunal work has included the Disputes Tribunal, the Human Rights Review Tribunal, working as a Visiting Justice in prisons and determining refugee claims.
A New Zealander of Tongan and Pakeha descent, Sarah graduated from the University of Otago with a law degree and a Bachelor of Arts in Māori. Her professional and personal experiences have provided her with opportunities to learn from, work with and advocate for iwi, hapu and tangata Māori, including representation in Treaty of Waitangi claims and advising on Māori legal issues.
