Creating and sustaining eResearch platforms is a complex undertaking. Alongside the significant technical challenges of creating flexible, high performance platforms are a set of political and social concerns that equally need to be addressed for the initiative to be successful. Related concerns exist in enterprise systems development.
Enterprise Architecture thinking and techniques, like disciplined project management, translate well into the eResearch domain – both in decomposing the problem to be solved and maintaining an optimal solution path. This holds true across the many perspectives that constitute eResearch: discipline leaders, governments, institutions, research groups and investigators.
While eResearch problems have some significantly different characteristics from those of the enterprise, adapting some Enterprise Architecture analyses and tools is beneficial in creating, enhancing and supporting end-to-end integrated eResearch workflows, as well as enhancing the broader eResearch ecosystem.
This oral presentation will explore how Enterprise Architecture thinking and techniques can be adapted within the eResearch to decompose, analyse and develop effective and durable solutions.
Biography:
Mr. Kheeran Dharmawardena, MBA, B.Comp., is the managing director of Cytrax consulting, a consulting firm specialising in information infrastructure for research. Kheeran has over 2 decades of experience in delivery of many ICT services within the higher education and research sector, including infrastructure delivery, service delivery, data management, IT & enterprise architecture and eResearch. He has a special interest in the socio-technical challenges involved in the delivery of effective services.
